Dr. John A. Milner (1947-2013) was an internationally respected scientist known for his work in human nutrition and cancer prevention. He served as Chief of the Nutritional Science Research Group in the Division of Cancer Prevention at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) from 2000 to 2012 after a successful academic career serving as faculty and department head at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Pennsylvania State University, respectively. In 2004, he initiated the annual NCI training program which has since been named in his honor, the John Milner Nutrition and Cancer Prevention Research Practicum and is intended for graduate students, registered dietitian nutritionists, academicians, physicians and other health care professionals in the early stages of their career.
