Jian-Lun Xu, Ph.D., is a Mathematical Statistician in the Biometry Research Group.

Dr. Xu develops statistical methods for cancer and early detection studies, and provides statistical support to the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal and Ovarian (PLCO) Cancer Screening Trial and the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST). He also provides consultations to scientific decision-makers and assists with protocol reviews. Dr. Xu holds specialized expertise in survival analysis, clinical trials, parametric and nonparametric methods, and multivariate methods.

Prior to joining the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in 1998, Dr. Xu was an Assistant Professor at the University of Houston. Dr. Xu received his M.A. in applied statistics and Ph.D. in mathematical statistics from the University of Maryland, where he studied the nonparametric methods of biased sampling models. Dr. Xu continued his research training at NCI as a visiting fellow. His research throughout this period focused on evaluation of screening programs and modeling the tumor size at metastasis.
