Biography
Indu Kohaar, Ph.D., serves as a Program Director in the Cancer Biomarkers Research Group (CBRG), Division of Cancer Prevention (DCP), National Cancer Institute (NCI). Dr. Kohaar’s expertise includes genetics, genomics, biomarkers, and racial disparity with a focus on urologic cancers.
She has taken on a leadership role in supporting the programmatic and scientific management of several NCI initiatives including the CBRG Early Detection Research Network (EDRN)- Genitourinary (GU) program and the Trans NCI Human Tumor Atlas Network (HTAN) - Pre cancer Atlas (PCA) initiative.
Dr. Kohaar received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Delhi University, India. She was an associate professor in the Department of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University, F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine and currently holds Adjunct Faculty appointment as Research Associate Professor (non-tenured) at the department. She also held a Senior Staff Scientist position at Translational Research Program at Center for Prostate Disease Research, Murtha Cancer Center Research Program at Henry M. Jackson Foundation. Her research focused on investigating the molecular genetics underlying prostate cancer health disparities and the discovery of race/ancestry biomarkers for prostate cancer.
