Biography

Dr. Eva Szabo is Chief of the Lung and Upper Aerodigestive Cancer Research Group at the NCI Division of Cancer Prevention. She graduated from Yale University with a B.S. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, received her M.D. from Duke University, and completed her internal medicine residency at Bellevue-NYU Medical Center. After completing her medical oncology fellowship at the National Cancer Institute, Dr. Szabo led a laboratory effort studying lung cancer biology.

Dr. Szabo joined the NCI Division of Cancer Prevention to oversee lung and head and neck cancer prevention trials. She also runs the NCI-DCP Early Phase Cancer Prevention Clinical Trials Program. A board certified physician in oncology and internal medicine, she continues to see patients with lung and head and neck cancer, and participates in multiple phase I and phase II cancer treatment trials. She has served on numerous national and international committees, task forces, and workshops bringing together cancer prevention researchers to share the latest strides in the field. Dr. Szabo’s awards include two NIH Merit Awards, and one of the 10 NIH Women In Science distinction in 2007. In addition to her work as Principal Investigator, she has lectured and mentored students at all professional levels. She serves as a Senior Deputy Editor for Cancer Prevention Research and serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Clinical Oncology and Critical Reviews in Oncology/Hematology.
