Cover of the Jounal of the National Cancer Institute Monograph, 2022, Number 60..A JNCI monograph on Engaging Older Adults in Cancer Clinical Trials Conducted in the National Cancer Institute Clinical Trials Network is available now. The articles, developed through working groups formed for an NCI workshop held in April 2021 to address this issue, provide recommendations and new and innovative solutions to common barriers to accrual. Specifically, article topics include an update on the enrollment of older adults into trials, barriers and proposed solutions, challenges as seen through the lens of patient partners, trial design considerations, integration of geriatric assessment measures into trials, and infrastructure to support accrual of older adults to trials.

The recommendations provided will be disseminated to NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) and NCI’s National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN) stakeholders at meetings and webinars, and the NCI and NCORP Research Bases will work collaboratively to implement the workshop recommendations with the goal of increasing accrual of older adults to NCI-supported clinical trials.
