Biography

Matthew Schabath, Ph.D. is a Moffitt Distinguished Scholar and Senior Member at the Moffitt Cancer Center with joint appointments in the Departments of Cancer Epidemiology and Thoracic Oncology. He serves a Program Leader of the Cancer Epidemiology Program and is the Primary Investigator Moffitt’s Institutional Biobank (Total Cancer Care®). Dr. Schabath's research expertise encompasses several key areas:

  • Molecular Epidemiology: Investigating genetic and environmental factors contributing to cancer risk and progression.
  • Quantitative Imaging/Radiomics: Utilizing artificial intelligence to analyze medical images, identifying image-based biomarkers for clinical decision support.
  • Cancer Care Disparities among LGBTQ+ Populations: Conducting studies to understand and address disparities in cancer care among LGBTQ+ communities.

Since 2000 he has published over 240 peer-reviewed papers, has an h-index of 63 with over 20,000 citations, and is currently MPI of four R01 equivalents from the National Cancer Institute and Florida Biomedical Research Program.
