Biography

Ping Hu, Sc.D., is a Mathematical Statistician in the Biometry Research Group.

Dr. Hu collaborates on Division of Cancer Prevention (DCP) initiatives related to cancer screening, overdiagnosis of breast cancer, statistical methods for design and analysis of early detection trials, cancer risk prediction and assessment, and survival analysis.

Dr. Hu serves a statistician on the lung component of the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal and Ovarian (PLCO) Cancer Screening Trial, and contributed to the design of the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST). She currently collaborates on the Randomized Lung and Colorectal Screening Trial in China and provides support to the Physician’s Desk Query initiative by translating materials into Chinese.

Dr. Hu received her M.S. in health policy and management and Sc.D. in biostatistics from Harvard University, and then completed her post-doctoral training in the Department of Biostatistics at Harvard University. She worked for the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) on cancer clinical trials at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute both during her doctoral program, and as a post-doctoral fellow. Prior to joining NCI in 2000, she was an Assistant Professor at Brown University.
