The John Milner Nutrition and Cancer Prevention Research Practicum

The Nutritional Science Research Group in the Division of Cancer Prevention at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health and the Department of Nutrition at the Clinical Center, National Institutes of Health, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center are offering a one-week educational opportunity in Nutrition and Cancer Prevention Research for individuals with a sustained commitment to nutrition and health promotion. This one-week intense learning session provides specialized instruction in the role of diet and bioactive food components as modifiers of cancer incidence and tumor behavior. This practicum is research based and best suited for those interested in expanding their research applications and applying research to their practice. Some of the cancer prevention topics/activities at the practicum will be:

  • Microbiome
  • Bioactive Food Components
  • Bioenergetics
  • Nutrigenomics
  • Cancer Survivorship
  • Pre-Clinical & Clinical Studies
  • Tour of the Metabolic Unit at the U.S. Department of Agriculture
  • Tour of the National Library of Medicine



This practicum is open, at no cost, to those who have a commitment to nutrition including graduate students, registered dietitian nutritionists, and students enrolled in a CADE-accredited supervised practice program or combined with undergraduate or graduate studies. Academicians, physicians and other health care professionals in the early stage of their career also are eligible.

Room, board, and transportation expenses are the responsibility of the participant. Full week commitment is required.
