The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has a significant presence around the world in global cancer efforts. The Center for Global Health (CGH) will host the Global Cancer Research symposium to further integrate those efforts to enhance the overall impact of the Institute.
The goal of the symposium is to increase opportunities for coordinated cancer control efforts in order to decrease the burden of cancer around the world. The symposium aims to identify and leverage the partnerships, resources, and infrastructure created by existing programs across NCI divisions, offices, and centers to foster new collaborations in global cancer control research, and program planning and implementation around the world.
- Increased awareness of NCI’s international work around cancer prevention and screening.
- Increased knowledge and understanding of partnerships and programs in global health across NCI.
- Identification of new collaboration opportunities and strengthened engagement among existing collaborations in research, program development and program evaluation.

The symposium will focus on cancer prevention and screening and will include a keynote address from NCI’s Division of Cancer Prevention Director, Dr. Barry Kramer. The topic will be further developed through discussions on vaccines and tobacco control, as well as a poster session on prevention and screening initiatives. Finally, there will be remarks on a way forward in cancer prevention from Center for Global Health Director, Dr. Ted Trimble.
In keeping with CGH’s goal to optimize NCI partnerships, participants from all NCI divisions, offices and centers are invited to participate.
The Center for Global Health will lead development of the symposium agenda and will solicit poster presentation abstracts from NCI divisions, offices, and centers.
