Dr. Howard Parnes received a BA from Cornell University in 1977 and an MD from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1981. He trained in internal medicine at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center from 1981 to 1984 followed by a medical oncology fellowship at the University of Maryland Cancer Center (UMCC) from 1984 to 1987. After 8 years on the UMCC faculty, he joined the Division of Cancer Prevention at the National Cancer Institute, where he has been Chief of the Prostate Research Group since 2001.
Dr. Parnes has authored numerous scientific publications and served on the Steering Committees for PCPT and SELECT, the two largest prostate cancer prevention trials conducted to date. In addition to his primary research interest in genitourinary cancer prevention, he is an attending physician and clinical investigator in the NCI Clinical Center prostate and bladder cancer programs.
