Overview
Since 2004, the NCI and the NIH Department of Nutrition at the Clinical Center have sponsored the Nutrition and Cancer Prevention Research Practicum . This one-week educational opportunity provides specialized instruction in the role of diet and bioactive food components as modifiers of cancer incidence and tumor behavior. Topics include pre-clinical and clinical findings related to the following:
- Cancer trends;
- Ethics and health-related messages;
- Nutrigenomics;
- Molecular targets and biomarkers;
- Bioenergetics;
- Nutrition-related databases; and
- Bioactive food components.
The program is geared to those interested in pursuing a career in nutrition and cancer research; or to those who may incorporate research into their current practice -- dietetic interns, graduate students, dietitians who have an interest in research, academicians, physicians, and other healthcare professionals in the early stage of their career. Introducing current opportunities available in the field, the practicum establishes a foundation for future researchers.
