Dr. Grant Izmirian has worked on methodology for monitoring clinical trials, conducting formal interim analyses for the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal and Ovarian (PLCO) cancer screening trial and the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST). These analyses were nonstandard in nature and required a subject matter expert because of the presumed delay in the effect of screening. He also led the design of the NLST interim analysis plan, together with Drs. Fagerstrom and Prorock.
Dr. Izmirian's current collaborative projects include supporting the Early Detection Research Group in a process control role, and assisting investigators in the Nutritional Sciences Research Group with the analysis of data from microarray experiments. Recently, he began an inter-institutional collaboration, serving as alternate statistician on an IACUC board at the Walter Reed research facility. Other research projects include further prospective cohort analyses using the PLCO trial data, and methods for lead time adjustment of effects related to randomization arms in models for post diagnostic cancer mortality in screening trials.
